Mr. Shaukat Tarin, Federal minister of finance and revenue, chaired today’s meeting of the National Economic Council’s Executive Committee (ECNEC) regarding approval of infrastructure projects.
The Commission also considered and approved a summary to be carried out by the Pakhtunkhwa Highway Authority sponsored by the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on the Peshawar – D.I.Khan Autobahn (PHA). The total project cost amounts to Rs. 276,529,496 million.
The project plans to build 360 km of dual six-lane track from Peshawar to Dera Ismail Khan, passing through Kohat, Hangu, Karak, Bannu, Lakki Marwat and finishing at Dera Ismail Khan. The work includes tunnel construction, underpasses, etc.
The construction of the road will enhance trade and tourism and create jobs during and after the construction of the road project. Better road connectivity will increase the local population’s economic prospects.
The ECNEC welcomed these plans, as envisaged by the Prime Minister, to make Pakistan a tourism hub for national and international tourists.
Finally, the ECNEC approved a project concerning the University of Engineering & Emerging Technologies of Pak (PUEET), a university for research that will host various centers of excellence in state-of-the-art science and technology parks.
The total project cost amounts to Rs. 23,54 billion. The project will lead to a better quality of education, build collaboration between industry and academia, and train new technology graduates.
