Islamabad: The recovery unit of Prime Minister Imran Khan as tasked deputy commissioners (DCs) of 135 districts to find out the benami properties in the revenue record and find out the owners of these within a month – a news source reported.

The DCs have also strictly ordered to keep any information obtained through this method to themselves, and have been warned of serious action in case of non-compliance.

The written orders that have been issued to these DCs include 36 officials from the federal capital and Punjab, 29 from Sindh and 34 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. A number of politically and socially influential individuals are suspected of holding benami properties in Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including the tribal districts. The Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan has been keeping himself updated on the situation. He recently issued directions for the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to arrange a briefing for him on the first week of September on the progress of the board for the tracking of benami properties among other tax-related measures.
